Wind Turbine Engineering Program

Gain hands-on engineering experience.

Learn from our renewable energy projects and develop relationships with the community and other participants from all around the world. There’s no requirement to have any engineering background. Anyone will be able to learn and to participate in building a wind turbine from scratch.

The WindAid Experience

The WindAid Experience provides renewable energy education, hands-on learning, and cultural immersion. Participants develop skills by assembling and installing wind turbines while collaborating with local communities on sustainable energy solutions. This program enhances technical expertise and awareness of renewable energy's social and environmental impacts. Engaging with locals fosters cultural exchange and an understanding of the challenges in integrating renewable energy. This blend of training, community involvement, and cultural engagement creates a unique opportunity for those seeking to impact renewable energy.

Training Structure

  • Arrival
Upon your arrival in Trujillo, you will be picked up at the airport and brought to your accommodations at the Espaanglisch House. You can arrive up to 2 days before your program starts. Spend your first few days exploring the city and getting well acquainted with your new housemates and neighbors.

    Day 1-2
The first few days in the workshop will be dedicated to meeting the WindAid team and familiarizing yourself with the Universidad Nacional de Trujillo (UNT) campus. There, you will learn the basics about wind energy from the team and UNT professors. Additionally, you will receive training on workshop procedures, and health and safety practices.

  • Day 3-24
Together with your cohort of international participants, you will be learning about wind energy and how to build a wind turbine. Learn how to fabricate wind turbine parts from the foundation, generator, blades, and everything in between. Gain skills in using power tools, soldering, welding, industrial painting, and so much more! *Note, during this time, we may go into the field to help the community with digging a foundation for the wind turbine.

  • Day 25
We’ll be relocating to field in the recipient community to install the wind turbine. Working together with community members, we will install the wind turbine and educate the beneficiaries on how it works and how to maintain it. This is the culmination of the program where you can immerse yourself in the community and experience the impact you’ve contributed.

  • Day 26
On the last day of the project, we will clean and close up the workshop. Afterwards, we will celebrate our project accomplishments with a group outing to one of our favorite places in and around Trujillo.

    Departure
We hope you’ve enjoyed your experience at WindAid! If there’s anything you’d still like to do in the Trujillo area, feel free to stick around the Espaanglisch House for up to 2 days after the program ends.

Note: The training schedule is subject to change depending on the specifics of each project and location.
