Our Organization

Our Purpose

WindAid Institute, an American and Peruvian-based environmental non-profit and educational institution, has been at the forefront of small-scale wind energy development and design since 2006. Through our international community of interns and volunteers, we have constructed 50+ wind turbines in remote Peruvian communities where there is limited or no access to grid electricity. We engineer solutions to this problem by harnessing wind energy to provide a clean and reliable source of electricity. Our work transforms the lives of underserved populations by providing basic electricity for powering light and phone charging capabilities.

Students and professionals come from all over the world to work together designing, building, and installing wind generators and their electronic systems in these communities.

WindAid Institute aims to "Light Up Lives" in Peru by providing rural communities access to sustainable energy.

With over 18 years in the industry, WindAid Institute offers to the volunteers interns a hands-on experience in all steps of designing, building and installing a turbine as part of a team.

What We’ve Achieved

  • Since 2006, our educational institution has worked with over 500 international students and 5 communities across Peru.

  • WindAid has hosted over 100 educational workshops at local schools, universities, and communities

  • WindAid has taught over 500 international students from 40 different countries

  • WindAid and the community of Catac have broken a Guinness world record, having installed the highest altitude wind turbine in the world! Officially certified this month by Guinness, the turbine provides electricity to the community beside the shrinking Peruvian glacier of Pasto Ruri at 4,877m (16,000ft) above sea level.
