The first wind turbine
installed by WindAid was for a small start-up business located in a
coastal town near Trujillo. The business fishes and farms scallops and
has an office set back from the beach front, with no utility power
connection available.
A 2kW wind turbine was
installed on their property to power the lights and computers in the
office. Using a wind turbine has meant they no longer need the
expensive diesel generator they previously relied upon, saving the
business money and enabling it to become more competitive in the fierce
Peruvian fishing market.
The company now employs
over 60 local people from the surrounding communities.
